MOUNTAIN PROVES TOO
HIGH FOR LIGHTYEAR
Mount Everest - heart of the magnificent Himalayas - is the highest mountain on earth at just over 29,000 feet. Many people have reached the top; but never without a great deal of effort and there have been many tragic incidences. So what made 42 year-old Spaceranger, Buzz Lightyear, decide he'd be next to attempt the climb?
“I want to take this club higher!...” he announced with pride, holding aloft a mint Club biscuit in one hand and pointing up towards the summit with the other; “…there's a long way to go, but I feel capable of fulfilling this task, but I'll need the chocolate biscuits for energy. To infinity and beyond!”
The expedition began with so much hope, so much promise and more optimism you could wave an ice axe at. Buzz seemed well organised and highly motivated for the mission ahead.
Buzz began to climb the notoriously difficult Northern Ridge on Saturday 12th August at approximately 3pm. The going was a lot tougher than he had anticipated. In radio communications with Vicky, a friend he'd met at the Base Camp, he admitted “It has started poorly. I'm losing the battle against North Ridge, Victoria”.
Sadly, that's the last anyone heard from him...
TRAGEDY
Buzz falls down a hole during the night and awakes to find himself in a spot of bother.
Despite his best efforts to escape, the ice continues to engulf him.
The last straw: Buzz loses his foot to frost bite.
