Macclesfield v Cambridge
13th December 2005
We were closing in on our LDV prize,
Had visions of Posh in the final.
But the LDV gremlins would poke out our eyes,
Just like our old dear friend Lionel.
One change from last week was a place for Dan Gleeson,
He played to the right of a central defence threesome.
One other change was made to attack,
Where Fola was rested and Atkins was back.

Macc started bright with a neat passing style,
They looked like the league team they are.
and upfront in Wijnhard they have a player with guile,
which is more than you can say for Westcarr.
Macc took the lead with a cross from Parkin,
Clyde Wijnhard providing a neat finish.
You ask a question of the defenders marking -
Our cup dreams had started to diminish.
We kept going forward,
until we had scored,
and by law of averages,
up popped David Bridges!
The score was 1-1, and Cardiff beckoned,
our names on the cup is what we all reckoned.
We waved our glow sticks to encourage the team,
But Macc took the lead once more.
With Jon Parkins shorts bustin' out at the seams,
Kevin Sandwith struck a great shot to score

So the score was 2-1,
And soon after it was three,
It was not much fun,
We could foresee a scoring spree.
As the referee blew on his whistle,
The travelling U's fans had little hope,
A prospect as inviting as sitting on a thistle,
with another half we had to cope.

However, 2 minutes in, faith was restored,
Asbo got stuck in, and got his reward.
It was Bunce with the cross, inch-perfect,
That the Macc keeper failed to collect.
But with half an hour left to go,
Macclesfield made it game, set, match.
Howie came to collect a cross, though
he miserably failed to catch.
Tipton struck the ball as he turned,
Lobbing the stranded Scott.
For a come back the U's fans all yearned,
But the last time that happened… I've forgot.
